Prop Matt Scott and hooker Aaron Payne are the other contenders, along with long-time captain Johnathan Thurston, for the leadership job at North Queensland this season. All three will play in tonight's trial game against Gold Coast in Cairns. Superstar halfback Thurston remains at risk of losing the captaincy, and coach Neil Henry said a decision on the job would be made leading into round one of the premiership. Thurston played in the All Stars game two weeks ago, but this will be his first pre-season hit-out for the Cowboys. "I was pretty rusty in the All Stars game," Thurston said. "It was my first run in a while, so I'm looking forward to getting out there with the boys and seeing what we've got." The Cowboys will field a side that is close to full strength.
